Türk Tabipleri Birliği Merkez Konseyi Başkanı Dr. Eriş Bilaloğlu Yunanistan Tabipler Birliği Başkanı Dr. Kalokerinos Emanuil’e bir mektup yazarak JFK Hastanesi’nde çalışan hekimlere maaşlarını ödemeyen Yunanistan’daki HYGEIA şirketi üzerinde kamuoyu baskısı oluşturulması ve hak talep eden meslektaşlarımızın desteklenmesi konularını dile getirdi.

The physicians who work in a private hospital that owned by Safak Hospitals Group (Turkey) and Marfin Investment Group (HYGEIA) (Greece) partnership have not received their salaries for months in İstanbul. They have made a demonstration and strike asking for their rights.

Enclosed we send you the press declaration of Istanbul Chamber of Physicians. We would like to ask your support and solidarity in order to create a public pressure on HYGEIA in Greece.

“SYSTEMATIC USURPATION OF SALARIES”

IS ONGOING

AT JFK HOSPITAL OWNED BY ŞAFAK HOSPITALS GROUP AND MARFIN INVESTMENT GROUP  (HYGEIA) PARTNERSHIP AND AT THE OTHER HOSPITALS

Istanbul Chamber of Physicians made a press declaration in front of the hospital building on February 7, 2011 to support our colleagues striking against the conditions of the physicians who have not received their salaries for months while working at JFK Hospital that owned by Şafak Hospitals Group and Marfin Investment Group (HYGEIA) partnership and at the other hospitals.

Prof. Dr. Taner Gören, President of Istanbul Chamber of Physicians, Dr. Lale Tırtıl and Dr. Hasan Oğan, Istanbul Chamber of Physicians Executive Board Members, Dr. Pelin Taşkıran, Coordinator of Istanbul Chamber of Physicians Private Practice Committee and Dr. Osman Öztürk, Turkish Medical Association Central Council Member joined the meeting besides a large number of physicians working at JFK and other hospitals.

Prof. Dr. Taner Gören, President of Istanbul Chamber of Physicians, stated in his speech that the physicians practicing at JFK for the sake of patients have not been paid for months.   Besides, he said that the salaries of the physicians have been usurped by giving lame excuses; the money earned by these hospitals is being utilized for the investments into different sectors and this is unethical.

Prof. Gören remarked that this problem occurred in consequence of Health Transformation Program that had been sped up in 2002 by AKP (Justice and Development Party) government. He also clarified that Turkish Medical Association and its largest chamber; Istanbul Chamber of Physicians will closely monitor the issue.

Dr. Osman Öztürk, Turkish Medical Association Central Council Member, added, “This is an historical moment. This is the first time in which health services aren’t provided in private practice since 1980 military coup, in other words, after 30 years. The physicians are striking by using their forces of production, because they can’t get paid.”

Dr. Öztürk reminded that Şafak Hospitals Group has been sold to a Greek investor, to Marfin Investment Group (Hygeia). He stated depending upon the information from the meeting with hospital administration that the salaries didn’t paid due to the selling of the Hospital or similar excuses. Dr. Öztürk said they have got no result through the interviews both within the country and abroad.

Dr. Öztürk highlighted that Ministry of Health has to come up with a solution immediately to this issue and added: “There is an Health Minister serving for eight years and all of the health workers of the country are on the streets. This is an indicator of the circumstances of health workers emerged in consequence of Health Transformation Program.  Not only the health workers, but also the entire people are aggrieved. Measles cases that have not occurred for many years began to climb again; one of our citizens died due to diphtheria recently; 2.5-mount-old baby starved to death. No word from Minister of Health. We, Turkish Medical Association and Istanbul Chamber of Physicians will be persistent to track either the Minister of Health or the Health Transformation Program.

Istanbul Chamber of Physicians Executive Board Member Dr. Tırtıl, who red the press declaration, stated that Istanbul Chamber of Physicians will continue the struggle against systematic usurpation of salaries at private sector and they gathered to declare their determination. She added: “We support our colleagues who could not receive their payments for months. The salaries that they deserved have not been paid despite the meetings held with hospital administration for three months. The physicians have kept their promises and treated their patients meticulously. However, JFK hospital has broken its promise and has not paid the salaries. Today, the physicians working in JFK Hospital are hopeless and angry. Most significant obstacle that prevents these physicians from conducting good medical practice at the hospital is unkept promises by hospital owners. Today, the physicians will not examine the patients and will not perform surgeries worrying about not ensuring good medical practice. We want to call public attention to the hospital administration that behaves disrespectfully towards the physicians, doesn’t pays the salaries they deserved.”
