About Medical Association of Turkey

Medical Association of Turkey(TTB) is organized voice of doctors in Turkey, under  the constitutional quarantee, ıt’s a public association, founded with law bearing the number 6023 and %80 (70.000) of country’s doctors are members of TTB, it’s main income source is membership fees and it doesn’t get any aid from goverment.

            TTB has been founded for;

         to protect and improve the public health conditions of Turkey and work for high in quality and suitable cost health car efor everyone,

         to bestly protect the morals of profession,

         to talk in every field of medical education,

         to express benefits of medical profession in every platform,

         and to protect the materialistic and spritiual rights of profession and members.

         TTB is working on subjects like providing proessional discipline, investigating patient complaints and determining personal working fees.

         Central council of TTB has been founded in İstanbul, 1953 then moved to Ankara after 1983.

         In 54 province where the number of doctors is more than 200, it has a local organization to become a member of TTB, physician must apply to one of these. These associations executive committees elect by members, proportional with member, ıt’s formed by 5-7 people, also  honor committees, inspection committees and delegates are fragments of local organizations.

         in every 2 years, elected delegates elect the central council, honor committee and inspection committee, the main duty of entral council is; providing organization politics that determined by grand congress, coordination of organization studies, central publication, arranging courses and interview with other organizations about professional matters.

         although membership of TTB is obligatory for private physicians,   still half of its members are civil servants. Membership fees propose by grand congress and approve by the ministry of health.

         nine technical and two jurist are working in TTB central council in Ankara beside this, all branch and commision studies are doing by volunteer physicians.

èWhat does TTB do for profession?

         TTB views education and professional qualifiedness of physicians in different ways. TTB believes in importance of medical education before graduation, and for this reason investigates medical education in point of quality and quantity and express its opinion in every platform.

         Along with these studies, TTB thinks that its main responsibility is about physicians continuous education, for this aim, in societies there are Professional publications and courses. Also, TTB prepared “Continual Education Activities Evaluation Directive” for standardization of post graduational education and it’s working successful among 3 years.

èEconomics

         TTB determines the schedule of prices for private sector and prepares reports about health care expenses, the Schedule is a responsibility by laws and many foundings, including TBMM, use that schedule.

èMembership Services

         TTB gives publications ,educational activities and identify cards, protocol notebooks, etc. to members. In addition, TTB membership gives the feeling and excitement of unity to physicians.

         “Medicine world”:6 issues in a year. Free of charge. It is largely about news.

         “Community and physician”:6 issues in a year. Theoretical and health politics.

         “Continual medical education magazine”:12 issue in a year.

         “Report”:6 issues in a year. For inter Office correspondence.

         “Worker health bulletin”:6 issues in a year.

         Local organizations provide following of medical deontology regulations about professional applications and behaviors.

èWhat does TTB do for Public?

         TTB uses mass communication tools for public information although relation with press are not so well, usually that’s the only way for public comminication.

         There is a bureau of press in TTB central.

    TTB prepares reports and make public consicious of matters about public health. Radiation, matters health care reform criticals and tobacco studies are examples of this studies.

èSpecial Projects

         In 1991-1992, TTB and Canadian Public Health have made a common project about public health care and in 1995-1996-1997, it has performed a Project about forensic medicine that supported by EU.

èHuman Rights

         TTB is making concentrated studies about various fields of human rights in 1997 because of these studies, PHP (Physicians for human rights) awarded TTB with human rights award.

èAwards

         TTB gives Dr.Behçet Aysan poetry awards, story and expression award and 14 March Press Health awards.
